4 tips to get a job in a fast-paced start-up

Are you a student or a recent graduate? Do you want to work for an exciting and fast-paced start up company? Join us at our Open Day 2020 to come and get a look into what it’s like to work at Aginic. To prepare for the event, here are 4 tips to get a job in your dream industry.

    1. Broaden your skill set

Soft skills and hard skills are two high-level groups that make up your skill set. It is a big advantage to have a blend of these skills when looking for that dream job. Soft skills are interpersonal skills that allow you to work with teammates and clients. Hard skills are the capabilities you use to complete tasks related to a specific role. Our team has a broad range of backgrounds and work experience, and we keep learning from each other!

Come to our Open Day workshops to learn about the various skills that our workers have from engineering, analytics, delivery and design

    2. Meet a Career Mentor

Mentors can help guide you through career-related situations from conflict to growth opportunities. A career mentor can give valuable advice and insight into their own personal journey in your chosen field. Mentors are able to provide tips to get a job within your industry. They provide a safe space for you to bounce off ideas and can help you develop those critical soft skills mentioned above. The bottom line is: they have most likely experienced the same problems that you are currently facing.

Aginic’s own mentors that we call ‘coaches’ will be at our Open Day this year, have a chat with them about working for a fast-paced and exciting start up.

    3. Intern

Internships are a great way to strengthen and develop your hard and soft skills in a professional workplace. Hard skills can be strengthened by shadowing colleagues on the job, and receiving feedback from supervisors. Watch how people interact at work to develop your soft skills like communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork. Engaging with workplace culture during your internship will allow you to learn more about employee relations and leadership structure, while making new friends along the way! These experiences will prepare you for what to expect in your first role, and increase your confidence in your chosen field. Not only will you be more experienced, but you will also have a competitive edge over other candidates when applying for jobs. Additionally, applying yourself in a workplace allows you to expand your professional network.

    4.Network

Get talking to people. Is there someone whose career inspires you? Have you come across some cool people on LinkedIn? Reach out for advice and ask them how they got to where they are. More often than not, you’ll find that people are friendly and open for a chat.

We’re a friendly bunch at Aginic, so feel free to drop us a line anytime if you have questions or just want to get to know us. We have a networking opportunity at our Open Day, so make sure you come and say hi!

These tips to get a job are from Aginic’s own recent graduates, with first-hand experience. So where to get started? Join us September 28th to October 2nd at Aginic’s Open Day.
